A copper badge or button for the Phoenix insurance company.

Phoenix Fire Office. \nA rare George III or George IV copper badge, or button, struck with the emblem of the Phoenix and the date '1810'. The reverse with the manufactuer's name 'Nortzell and Son Bouverie St.' \n[Thomas Nortzell, born 1777, died 1847]. \nSee also Grimwade, 'London Goldsmiths 1697-1837':- \n'Thomas, son of Jacob Nortzell of Mile End in the County of Middlesex, Gentleman, apprenticed to John Berenger, of Great New Street, Fetter Lane, buttonmaker and hardwareman as metal buttonmaker 7 May 1792. Free, 7 August 1799. First mark entered as smallworker, 11 February 1817. Address: 24 Great New Street, Fetter Lane, having presumably succeeded to the busiess of his master Berenger. Second mark in partnership with Henry Broughton, 29 December 1827. Address: 21 Bouverie Street, Fleet Street. His son Thomas was apprenticed to him as buttonmaker ad hardwareman, 1821.'
