A Double Magnum German Royal prize for a Steeplechase.

Hukin and Heath for the Duke of Cumberland (the last Crown Prince of Hanover). \n \nA rare Double Magnum silver mounted glass Champagne Bottle Decanter, London 1892. \nEngraved with a presentation inscription: 'Herzog V. Cumberland. Steeplechase. Oedenburg. 29th April 1895.' The glass body engraved with the name of a horse. \n \nThe neck additionally engraved with the retailer's name: 'L. Schuchs, Nachf, Wien.' '[The firm of L. Schuch's, Austrian Imperial Court supplier, was founded in 1831, and was succeeded by G. Edlauer]. \n \nErnst August, ( 1845 – 1923), was the eldest child and only son of George V of Hanover and his wife, Marie of Saxe-Altenburg. After the annexation of Hanover by Prussia in 1866 the Duke lived in Austria, latterly in Gmunden. He was the last Hanoverian prince to hold a British royal title and the Order of the Garter. In 1879 Ernst was made honourary Colonel of the Austrian 42nd. Regiment of Infantry, which was re-named after him. In 1878 he married Princess Thyra of Denmark, sister of the Princess of Wales, (later Queen Alexandra). \nThe city of Ödenburg [Oedenburg], now called Sopron, was ceded to Hungary in 1922. \n \nThe decanter is photographed beside a Magnum Champagne bottle [150 cl] to indicate the relative size. The double magnum decanter is the largest size of decanter listed by Hukin and Heath for their range of chmpagne-bottle formed decanters. The very smallest sizes and the very largest sizes are particularly rare: standard bottle sized versions appear on the market on a fairly regular basis. Condition: \n
