A George III silver Entree Dish, London 1813, Joseph Angell, engraved with the crest and arms of Captain Robert Hay, a view of a Naval engagement and a presentation inscription : \n'Presented as a Tribute of Gratitude by the Underwriters of London and elsewhere, interested in the Honble. East India Company’s ship Astell, ROBERT HAY ESQUIRE COMMANDER for his most gallant and successful defence of that valuable ship (in which duty he was severely wounded) on the Third day of July 1810 when attacked by a greatly superior French Force on his voyage to Calcutta and from which he nobly extricated his important Charge through the perils of a most sanguinary, and unequal contest.’ \nA memorial to Robert Hay and his sons is in Christ Church, Cheltenham - \n"Dedicated by his widowed mother to the memory of William Hay, Lieut in the Bengal Artillery, youngest and only remaining son of the late Capt. Robert Hay HEICS, who died at Kohat in the Punjab on the 7th of June 1851, aged 33 years." \n"Sacred to the memory of Robert Hay, late commander of the HEI Company ship Astell who departed this life on the 16th of Aug, 1849, aged 71 years.
