A silver Candlestick for the King of Hanover's Birthday.

A Royal silver Candlestick in antiquarian taste, London 1836, by John Tapley and Company. The nozzle and the well of the stick are engraved with the cypher and crown of Ernst August II, 1771-1851, Duke of Cumberland and, from 1837, King of Hanover. The underside of the base engraved 'EA' over 'F' and the underside of the drip plate engraved; '5th June 1841.' This date was the 70th birthday of the King. \n \nApart from the silver that the King of Hanover acquired from his sister, Princess Augusta, (1768-1840), and the Hanoverian silver which was present in Hanover at the time of Queen Victoria's accession to the British throne, the King apparently bought silver from Garrard's, Hennell's, Mortimer and Hunt and Rundell Bridge. John Tapley and Company occupied workshops next door to those of Rundell and are known to have supplied Rundell. Condition: \n
