A silver Spade to commemorate a newly begun mine-shaft and a Christening.

A silver Spoon in the form of a Spade, Sheffield, 1908, by Martin, Hall, to commemorate the cutting, on October 28th 1908, of the first sod in the process of sinking the shaft of the Betty Pit, part of a group of Durham coal mines owned by the Priestman family. Betty Mai Shiell Priestman, daughter of Francis Priestman, was born in October 1908 and clearly the pit was named after Betty. Condition: \n
