A Victorian silver Silk Winder with a Coventry inscription.

A Victorian silver Silk Winder, Birmingham 1867, by Hilliard and Thomason, engraved on each side with flowers and, one one side, with the crest of Powell [of Sussex] above the cipher 'MP' and, on the other side, with 'Presented to Miss Mary Powell by Edwd., & Harriet Fossey, working people of Dover Street Coventry in grateful acknowledgement of kindness received Decr. 25th 1867.' The silk winder is housed within a [damaged] wooden case. \n \nEdward Fossey appears in the 1871 Census as a Watch finisher and Book-keeper, aged 50, born in Coventry and married to Harriet, aged 43, born in Kenilworth, and with two young male boarders, Owen Bowen, 20, and Richard Law, 24. Edward had married Harriet England in Kenilworth on 25th January 1858. Condition: \n

Good with very slight surface marking; the wooden container damaged.
