A Victorian silver Snuffbox.

A Victorian silver Snuffbox, London 1841, by A.J. Norman: the whole with flowering foliate engraving and a bird of paradise on the lid. The front of the box with a shield-shaped cartouche and contemporary engraved initials 'RW' in script. \nThe firm of Abraham John Norman appears to have produced a number of finely engraved snuffboxes incorporating birds amongst foliage - reminiscent of the earlier work of Rawlings and Summers. Norman is first recorded at 19 Wynyatt Street, Clerkenwell in 1841 and is listed as a working jeweller. In 1854 he moved to Chapel street, Pentonville with his two sons and is listed thereafter as a goldsmith. A.J. Norman retired in 1861. [See John Culme for this information]. Condition: \n
