A Scottish silver Game Club Prize Medal, Edinburgh 1834, by Peter Sutherland. Presented to Mr. Alexander Porteous, Morningside, for the Short Foot Race.1835. \n \nThe 'Caledonian Mercury' of October 10th 1835 carried an account of the 'Vernon Games' held at Portobello on the 129th September when a variety of games were contested - including shooting, quoits, 'hop step and leap', 'high leap' and the short foot race. The latter race, 'for the handsome silver medal presented by the Tyneside club', it states, was won by Mr. Alexander Porteous of Morningside. 'The members and their friends sat down at six o'clock to a sumptious dinner in Forsyth's Assembly Rooms.' Condition: \n
