Ethel Doggett's silver Stamp Case.

An American frosted silver and enamel Stamp Case, marked 'Sterling and pat. June 24 90.' [Probably by Gorham & Co.] The case is formed as an envelope, with enamel stamp and date frank 'New York II 6PM 1910' above an engraved name and address: 'Ethel Newell Doggett, Fredericksburg, Va.'; the reverse with 'P.O. 11.12.10 Rec'd' in enamel. The interior of the case is gilt. \n \nEthel Newell Doggett, was born in Fredericksburg in November 27, 1885, the daughter of George Newell Doggett and his wife, Hughgenia Sally. The Doggett family were from Chicago, [William E. Doggett 1820-1876, of Ward and Doggett was Ethel's grandfather], George's father being a shoe merchant there. Sadly, Ethel died in August 1911, whilst in San Diego, California. \nEthel's mother was a follower of Joanna Southcott and, after the death of her husband, devoted the remainder of her life to spreading Southcott's teachings.
