Pair of George III Large Sauceboats

A pair of George III large Sauceboats, London 1813, Joihn Houle. \n \nEngraved with the Naper family crest, these boats formed part of a Dining Service acquired by James Lennox William Naper (1791-1868) of LoiughcrewHouse, Meath, in Ireland. The service included pieces marked by Houle (who had been apprenticed to Paul Storr), William Burwarsh, William Elliot and Eley and Fearn. \n \nHarriette Wilson described Naper as a ‘long-backed’ foxhunting dandy worth £20,000 a year' In 1813, she wrote: 'Napier came sneaking and grinning into the room, and informed us, that either Lord Bath or Lord Bathurst, I forget which, was bringing him into Parliament. ‘More shame for you, you ought not to have given up your independence for millions’, said I. ‘You cannot now vote against the man who give [sic] you a seat.’' \n \n[http://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1790-1820] \nFor a slightly heavier pair of sauceboats of the same pattern by this maker, also of 1813, see Bonhams New Bond Street, 23/07/2004, lot 97 [£6692].
