A Victorian silver-gilt Communion Spoon, London 1851, John Keith. The stem of the spoon engraved ' Deo humill: oblat R. T. Lowe 1852.' \nRichard Thomas Lowe, 1802-1874, is best known for his writings on the flora and fauna of Madeira, where he was chaplain from 1833.His association with the 'High Church' Oxford movement led to Lord Palmerston's demands that he should resign in 1847. He left the island in 1852. In 1874 he drowned whilst on another expedition. Condition: \n
Reasonably good but showing signs of use - some wear to the gilding on the back of the bowl and some small knocks and scratches.
